Sound Vision Canada is delighted to offer an interactive online workshop with expert teacher trainer, Uzma Ahmed.
Join this engaging session designed for teachers, parents, and community educators who want to bring Islamic history to life. Discover how to move beyond dates and dynasties to teach history in a way that shapes identity, strengthens faith, and confronts common misconceptions about Islam. Through practical tools, sample lessons, and myth-busting discussions, you’ll leave empowered to teach Islamic history with relevance, confidence, and clarity in the Canadian context.
Please note this workshop is intended for adults working with learners in grades 6-12.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of Islamic history in shaping Muslim identity and worldview.
- Identify common misconceptions and distortions about Islamic history (e.g., “Islam spread by force”) and how to address them in teaching.
- Apply five key pedagogical principles to design engaging and purposeful Islamic history lessons.
- Evaluate and improve lesson samples using a values-based and myth-corrective lens.
- Use practical tools and frameworks to plan age-appropriate, thematic, and meaningful Islamic history lessons for diverse learners in Canada.
Uzma Ahmed is the Director of Education and Training at the Institute of Integrated Knowledge. Uzma is responsible for the 5D Thinking Model training program, as well as consultancy and resource development. She brings a wealth of experience, having worked for 25 years as an educational consultant, school principal, curriculum developer, researcher in Islamic education, and teacher trainer for schools worldwide.
Uzma is also a public speaker on contemporary Islamic issues and regularly conducts courses on the Qur’an, Seerah, and Islamic history. She frequently develops materials for homeschoolers and creates content for Islamic courses with a particular focus on Islamic history and Tarbiyah.
