Workshop Objectives:
- Define scientism, identify its characteristics, and evaluate its limitations.
- Explain secularism, its emergence in 17th-century Europe, its impact on religion, and its influence on society.
- Evaluate the contributions of Muslim scientists and their global impact.
- Explain how modern science addresses the ‘what’ questions but cannot answer the ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions due to its secular worldview.
- Assess Western secular education’s effect on belief and morality.
- Identify disconnections and misconnections as the core problem in secular education.
- Define 5D Thinking as a model for reconnection with the Creator.
- Explain why deep thinking is essential for understanding the creation and uncovering deeper meanings beyond surface-level observations.
- Identify how the Qur’an encourages using different types of thinking to discover signs of the Creator in creation.
- Define the five dimensions of thinking in the 5D Thinking model: analytical, analogical, critical, meditative, and moral thinking.
- Develop critical thinking skills by questioning hidden assumptions within secular explanations of creation to negate secular trios of nature, causes, and chance.
- Understand the universe as a sign of the Creator and learn to read it as a manifestation of Divine Names and derive Character lessons from the study of the universe.
Uzma Ahmed is the Director of Education and Training at the Institute of Integrated Knowledge, Hartford, USA. She is responsible for the 5D Thinking Model Training Program, Consultancy, and resource development. Uzma Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in International Relations from the University of London and an MA in International Relations from Queen Mary University of London. She has completed a Diploma in Islamic Education from the International Online University with a broad range of Islamic disciplines. She has worked as an educational consultant, primary school principal, curriculum developer, researcher in Islamic education, and teacher trainer for schools around the world for 25 years. She conducts courses for the Qur’an, Sirah, Islamic history, and personal development. She is a public speaker on contemporary Islamic issues in the Muslim world. She has authored primary-level English textbooks and reading books. She regularly writes material for homeschoolers and Islamic courses for children of all ages on many topics with a focus on Islamic history and Tarbiyah.
