DESCRIPTION:Sound Vision Canada is thrilled to offer a much-needed teacher training series with the expert\, Abir Catovic. \nIslam is a rich tradition possessing an ocean of information. The key to educating our children\nabout their faith is not by striving to teach them everything about Islam\, which is an impossibility.\nThe key is for Islamic Studies to address the appropriate Islamic concepts at the proper student\ndevelopmental levels. In this teacher learning series\, we will ascertain what the sources of Islam\nsay about properly teaching Islam. We will also delve into the student stages of development and\nuncover the essential teachings and methods required to help students develop a healthy relationship\nwith their Creator which naturally promotes Islamic character development and the desire to strive\nfor Ihsan or excellence in all aspects of life. \nPlease note that these sessions are intended to provide instructional guidance for parents\, Islamic\nStudies educators\, and all those involved in children’s Islamic education. Educators are invited to\npartake in this learning series to enhance their understanding of various aspects of Islam which\nmay increase their classroom effectiveness. \nWe are offering a five-part series with the second session to be hosted on Oct. 17 at 7 pm EDT\, insha Allah. \nRegistration is not limited to the participants of Part 1. She has taught every grade level from KG through\ntwelfth grade while serving in administration as a Religious Studies Director\, Vice-Principal and Principal. Mrs.\nCatovic developed Islamic and Qur’anic Studies curricula for her school’s elementary\, middle and high school\nlevels and created a Prophetic Character Education Program. She also helped to develop a Two-Year Qur’an\nMemorization Program that graduated more than fifty male and female Huffadh. \nIn 2017\, Abir Catovic was awarded the Noor Kids Islamic Teacher Appreciation Award\, being voted one of the\ntop three Islamic educators in North America. In 2021\, she was the recipient of the New Jersey State\nGovernor’s Jefferson Award in Education for her “exemplary volunteer efforts and public service”. Currently\nshe serves as the Board Secretary of WISER (Weekend Islamic Schools Educational Resources) and is an\nadvisor to the Moral Ecology Trust\, a multifaith\, multidisciplinary project of the University of Virginia’s Advanced\nStudies in Culture Foundation which aims to strengthen youth character formation.

Dr. Trevor Hunter will share his knowledge\, insight\, and experiences. \nDr. Trevor Hunter is a recognized non-profit governance expert\, having nearly 25 years of experience as a governance educator\, researcher\, consultant\, and practitioner. Trevor introduced the first ever course on governance under the UWO system at Ivey in 1999 and then the second one (which continues to this day) at King’s. He has taught the “Effective NFP Boards” course in the Not-For-Profit Management Certificate Program in Western’s department of Continuing Studies for over a decade. He has published and presented papers on governance in and at leading academic journals and conferences. Dr. Hunter has provided governance consulting to many regional non-profit organizations such as Western’s University Students’ Council\, the London Children’s Museum\, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre\, Anova\, Reforest London\, and Community Living London among others. Trevor has served on numerous boards such as the King’s University College Foundation\, Youth Opportunities Unlimited\, the London Small Business Centre (former board chair)\, the Middlesex London Board of Health (former chair of the governance committee) and the regional chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. In 2015\, Trevor was one of three co- founders\, and then vice-chair of the board\, of Airshow London\, a non-profit organization designed to celebrate aviation excellence and raise money for local charities. While completing his studies at Windsor Law\, Aadil was involved in community-based projects advocating for local municipalities to pass emergency climate declarations and create stronger environmental protections. Aadil truly believes in working on local or community levels to create wide-scale change. With this in mind\, Aadil co-founded Green Ummah. Aadil is passionate about education and is striving to open a path for Muslim youth to be innovative changemakers on environmental policy in Canada.

He is a recognized non-profit governance expert\, having nearly 25 years of experience as a governance educator\, researcher\, consultant\, and practitioner. Trevor introduced the first ever course on governance under the UWO system at Ivey in 1999 and then the second one (which continues to this day) at King’s. He has taught the “Effective NFP Boards” course in the Not-For-Profit Management Certificate Program in Western’s department of Continuing Studies for over a decade. He has published and presented papers on governance in and at leading academic journals and conferences. Dr. Hunter has provided governance consulting to many regional non-profit organizations such as Western’s University Students’ Council\, the London Children’s Museum\, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre\, Anova\, Reforest London\, and Community Living London among others. Trevor has served on numerous boards such as the King’s University College Foundation\, Youth Opportunities Unlimited\, the London Small Business Centre (former board chair)\, the Middlesex London Board of Health (former chair of the governance committee) and the regional chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. In 2015\, Trevor was one of three co- founders\, and then vice-chair of the board\, of Airshow London\, a non-profit organization designed to celebrate aviation excellence and raise money for local charities. Currently\, Dr. Hunter serves as vice-chair and chair of the governance committee for Museum London where he oversees by-law and policy compliance and development.

Participants will be eligible for the next phase in our teacher training program.\n\n\n\nDr. Fadwa Elashi is a former assistant professor of developmental psychology with five years of experience teaching courses on Educational Psychology\, Learning Through Play\, and Child Development. She has published several peer-reviewed research articles in the field of child development and often reviews manuscripts for consideration for publication in major academic journals. Her profound passion for fostering optimal and equitable learning environments for all children is what drove her to establish Nectar Education. \nRola El-Roz earned her specialized Honours Bachelor of Science degree in statistics\, math and geography from the University of Toronto in 2012. She completed her Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) at Western University in 2015. In 2016\, she applied these skills at ISNA High School\, and in 2019\, she became the vice-principal at Suffah Academy where she gained leadership experience while working with children in JK – Grade 8. Furthermore\, Rola completed her Montessori Casa training which is designed for children aged 3-6 years. Rola also has experience working in the Halton District School Board since 2017. She is the co-founder of 3arably\, an initiative that supports educators in the MENA region through connecting them with students to teach in North America. \nInas Abusheikha is a trilingual mother passionate about children’s education and morally centred entertainment. She has been teaching for the past 15 years and is an experienced trainer on teaching second languages. Through Journey with Inas\, she leads a variety of programs\, courses for educators\, and of course\, her Arabic educational children’s show\, Fusحa!  \nPlease note that on both days\, refreshments will be provided and a lunch option will be available for sale.

SUMMARY:Strategic Planning and the NFP Board
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to offer additional specialized training\, Strategic Planning and the NFP Board\, with Dr. Trevor Hunter to help advance your not-for-profit organization. \nAugust 1st and August 8th\, 2023 (7-9 pm EDT)  \nA few of the special topics include: \n\nWhat is strategy and strategic planning?\nWhat is the NFP Board’s role in strategic planning?\nTying strategy to Board oversight and operations\nRisk management\n\nIn his discussion of strategy and strategic planning\, Dr. Trevor Hunter will give a mini-lesson on strategy such that upon completion of the two sessions\, attendees will understand the mechanics of the process. By understanding the underlying mechanics\, Board members can evaluate the process and activities of their management to be able to hold them accountable. \nThe training is planned as a learning discussion and opportunities to ask questions within both sessions will be included. Dr. Trevor Hunter will share his knowledge\, insight\, and experience. \nDr. Trevor Hunter is a recognized non-profit governance expert\, having nearly 25 years of experience as a governance educator\, researcher\, consultant\, and practitioner. Trevor introduced the first ever course on governance under the UWO system at Ivey in 1999 and then the second one (which continues to this day) at King’s. He has taught the “Effective NFP Boards” course in the Not-For-Profit Management Certificate Program in Western’s department of Continuing Studies for over a decade. He has published and presented papers on governance in and at leading academic journals and conferences. Dr. Hunter has provided governance consulting to many regional non-profit organizations such as Western’s University Students’ Council\, the London Children’s Museum\, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre\, Anova\, Reforest London\, and Community Living London among others. Trevor has served on numerous Boards such as the King’s University College Foundation\, Youth Opportunities Unlimited\, the London Small Business Centre (former Board chair)\, the Middlesex London Board of Health (former chair of the governance committee) and the regional chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. In 2015\, Trevor was one of three co-founders\, and then vice-chair of the Board\, of Airshow London\, a non-profit organization designed to celebrate aviation excellence and raise money for local charities. Currently\, Dr. Hunter serves as vice-chair of the Board and chair of the governance committee for Museum London where he oversees by-law and policy compliance and development.
