Discover how to move beyond dates and dynasties to teach history in a way that shapes identity\, strengthens faith\, and confronts common misconceptions about Islam. Through practical tools\, sample lessons\, and myth-busting discussions\, you’ll leave empowered to teach Islamic history with relevance\, confidence\, and clarity in the Canadian context.  \nPlease note this workshop is intended for adults working with learners in grades 6-12. \nLearning Objectives \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain the importance of Islamic history in shaping Muslim identity and worldview.\nIdentify common misconceptions and distortions about Islamic history (e.g.\, “Islam spread by force”) and how to address them in teaching.\nApply five key pedagogical principles to design engaging and purposeful Islamic history lessons.\nEvaluate and improve lesson samples using a values-based and myth-corrective lens.\nUse practical tools and frameworks to plan age-appropriate\, thematic\, and meaningful Islamic history lessons for diverse learners in Canada.\n\nUzma Ahmed is the Director of Education and Training at the Institute of Integrated Knowledge. Uzma is responsible for the 5D Thinking Model training program\, as well as consultancy and resource development. She brings a wealth of experience\, having worked for 25 years as an educational consultant\, school principal\, curriculum developer\, researcher in Islamic education\, and teacher trainer for schools worldwide. \nUzma is also a public speaker on contemporary Islamic issues and regularly conducts courses on the Qur’an\, Seerah\, and Islamic history. In partnership with Ummah Nabawiah Masjid\, we’re delighted to offer a two-day teacher training program with experts Imam Belal Ahmad\, Dr. Fadwa Elashi\, and Beena Ahmed. \n\n\nAttendees will receive the Sound Vision Canada teacher training workbook and other valuable resources. A Sound Vision Canada teacher training certificate will be issued upon completion of the program. Educators\, school administrators\, homeschooling parents\, and aspiring teachers are all welcome. He currently serves as the principal of an elementary school within the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. In addition to his role in education\, he runs an after-school maktab program at a local masjid in Hamilton and regularly delivers khutbas at various masajid in the area. Imam Belal is also a director of the Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians (CCMT)\, where he leads the organization’s education department. \n\nDr. Fadwa Elashi is a former assistant professor of developmental psychology with five years of experience teaching courses on educational psychology\, learning through play\, and child development. She has published several peer-reviewed research articles in the field of child development and often reviews manuscripts for consideration for publication in major academic journals. Her profound passion for fostering optimal and equitable learning environments for all children is what drove her to establish Nectar Education. \nBeena Ahmed has been an educator for more than 15 years and currently works with the Peel Board of Education. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum Pedagogy and Teacher Development from OISE. She started her career working at an Islamic School teaching various grades\, later being promoted to take on a school leadership position as a vice-principal. Dr. Trevor Hunter will share his knowledge\, insight\, and experiences. \nDr. Trevor Hunter is a recognized non-profit governance expert\, having nearly 25 years of experience as a governance educator\, researcher\, consultant\, and practitioner. Trevor introduced the first ever course on governance under the UWO system at Ivey in 1999 and then the second one (which continues to this day) at King’s. He has taught the “Effective NFP Boards” course in the Not-For-Profit Management Certificate Program in Western’s department of Continuing Studies for over a decade. He has published and presented papers on governance in and at leading academic journals and conferences. Dr. Hunter has provided governance consulting to many regional non-profit organizations such as Western’s University Students’ Council\, the London Children’s Museum\, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre\, Anova\, Reforest London\, and Community Living London among others. Trevor has served on numerous boards such as the King’s University College Foundation\, Youth Opportunities Unlimited\, the London Small Business Centre (former board chair)\, the Middlesex London Board of Health (former chair of the governance committee) and the regional chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. In 2015\, Trevor was one of three co- founders\, and then vice-chair of the board\, of Airshow London\, a non-profit organization designed to celebrate aviation excellence and raise money for local charities. DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL ACCESSIBILITY\n\nWhat NFPs and Masjid Leaders Need to Know\nGlobal Accessibility Awareness Day is May 16\, 2024. Sound Vision Canada is pleased to collaborate with DEEN Support Services to mark this day with a FREE training workshop on the topic of digital accessibility. \nThe online training will cover basic concepts and principles of digital accessibility. You will learn why digital accessibility is important and how digital content can be made accessible for everyone including people with all kinds of disabilities. We will explore the web accessibility guidelines\, best practices for developing accessible digital content and how to test accessibility. After working for more than three decades in education\, training and the airline industry\, he now works in the non-profit sector serving people with disabilities as Director of Finance and Shared Services at DEEN Support Services. His passion is to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and ensure that they are provided with a barrier free\, inclusive and accessible Canada where they can live an independent life with dignity and prosperity. He participates in several activities that promote the cause of accessibility and inclusivity. As a member of Region of Peel and Transhelp Accessibility Advisory Committees\, Azhar supports the Region’s initiatives to successfully achieve the AODA compliance goals. He is a pro user of adaptive technology for the blind and low vision community and provides training in the use of such technologies. Azhar holds an MBA degree in marketing. He has attended several international conferences\, seminars and online courses in the fields of training & development\, aviation management\, and accessible technology for blind and low vision users.

We’re delighted to welcome back expert Dr. Fadwa Elashi to share her knowledge and insights in the following areas: \n\nSpiritual Development: Connecting to Allah (SWT)\nLanguage Development: Communication\nCognitive Development: Creativity and Critical Thinking\nSocial Development: Collaboration\nEmotional Development: Confidence\n\nPlease note the material will be designed for Muslim educators working with children up to 12 years of age.  \nWe are offering one training session per month from February-June 2024\, insha Allah.  \nOn April 24\, we’re hosting Part 3 of the series with Creativity and Critical Thinking: How Can I Support the Child’s Higher-Order Thinking Skills?
