SUMMARY:Understanding and Supporting Children’s Behaviour
DESCRIPTION:Sound Vision Canada is pleased to offer teachers and parents an exciting learning opportunity with Runda Ebied\, paediatric occupational therapist. \nThe online session will focus on responding to challenging behaviour in children. We will share insights on how to address these behaviours in a way that promotes self-regulation\, strengthens the connection with caregivers\, and fosters healthy development. \nParticipants will gain an understanding of: \n\nThe underlying reasons for children’s behaviour\nClassroom strategies to support students with ADHD\nParenting strategies for holistic support at home\n\nRunda Ebied is a mother and a paediatric occupational therapist. Runda currently works with children with various needs (sensory\, attention\, emotional\, learning\, and physical) and works closely with their families and teachers to support their needs. Runda also has extensive experience working in mental health for individuals across the lifespan. Using a compassionate\, holistic and evidence-based approach in her work\, Runda aims to support children with their various needs\, as well as to empower teachers and parents with the resources\, tools and skills to enable them to better understand and support the needs of the children they are caring for. Runda provides professional development training to teachers across Canada and delivers workshops to parents to equip them with the resources and tools to support their children. SUMMARY:Qur’an Teaching in Action: From Theory to Practice
DESCRIPTION:Sound Vision Canada is excited to announce another enriching online workshop with Sr. Abir Catovic. The Building a Lifelong Connection with the Qur’an program hosted earlier this year provided a framework for the effective teaching of the Qur’an. Join us for a more hands-on online workshop where various types of lessons will be demonstrated for different age groups. What does a vocabulary lesson typically look like for an elementary level student\, middle school student\, high school student? What about a tafseer session or reflection session? How do you talk about surahs that describe hell or other difficult topics? Participants are encouraged to bring lesson plans to share and discuss and questions that they may have about the Qur’an teaching methodology or teaching challenges that they may encounter while teaching the divine revelation. \nWe look forward to you joining us in this practical workshop that will boost your confidence and knowledge to help you and your students build a lifelong connection with the Qur’an\, insha Allah. \nAbir Catovic has over 30 years of experience in Islamic education. She holds a Master’s in Education Leadership from Harvard University. She developed an early elementary Islamic Studies curriculum\, and co-founded a full-time Islamic school. She has served as religious studies director\, vice-principal\, and principal\, teaching all grades from kindergarten to twelfth. She developed Islamic and Qur’anic Studies curricula for all levels\, created a Prophetic character education program\, and helped establish a two-year Qur’an memorization program that produced over 50 Huffadh. In 2017\, she received the Noor Kids Islamic Teacher Appreciation Award\, recognizing her as one of North America’s top three Islamic educators. Currently\, she works as an education consultant\, board secretary of WISER (Weekend Islamic Schools Educational Resources)\, and an advisor to the Moral Ecology Trust\, a project focused on youth character formation. \n*IMPORTANT* We will be sharing the Zoom link with registrants via email shortly before the event. Despite the growth and importance of masjids and Muslim charities in Canada\, many boards struggle with lack of formal governance training. This gap often leads to missed opportunities to expand positive community impact. \nOur online training session with Junaid Mirza equips Muslim board members with the knowledge\, tools\, and confidence to lead effectively while fulfilling their religious and civic responsibilities.  \nParticipants will: \n\nExplore board members’ legal\, fiduciary\, and spiritual responsibilities as trustees of community amanah.\nLearn how Shura (consultation)\, transparency\, and accountability align with Canadian nonprofit governance.\nUnderstand the balance between oversight and interference in day-to-day operations.\n\nThe recording and presentation slides will be shared with all those who register\, insha Allah. \nJunaid Mirza is a partner at PwC Canada\, where he leads strategy and consulting for law firms and legal departments. In addition\, Junaid leads PwC Canada’s Entity Governance and Compliance practice\, providing entity and board management services to over 600 entities in Canada. With over 20 years of experience\, Junaid works with boards and executive teams to strengthen accountability\, risk\, oversight\, and financial stewardship. \nJunaid is actively involved in the Muslim community initiatives\, focusing on governance\, excellence\, transparency\, and long-term sustainability. He has served on boards both within and outside the community\, currently serving on the boards of The Muslim Fund and the National Muslim Action Fund.
