SUMMARY:Strategic Planning and the NFP Board
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to offer additional specialized training\, Strategic Planning and the NFP Board\, with Dr. Trevor Hunter to help advance your not-for-profit organization. \nAugust 1st and August 8th\, 2023 (7-9 pm EDT)  \nA few of the special topics include: \n\nWhat is strategy and strategic planning?\nWhat is the NFP Board’s role in strategic planning?\nTying strategy to Board oversight and operations\nRisk management\n\nIn his discussion of strategy and strategic planning\, Dr. Trevor Hunter will give a mini-lesson on strategy such that upon completion of the two sessions\, attendees will understand the mechanics of the process. By understanding the underlying mechanics\, Board members can evaluate the process and activities of their management to be able to hold them accountable. \nThe training is planned as a learning discussion and opportunities to ask questions within both sessions will be included. Dr. Trevor Hunter will share his knowledge\, insight\, and experience. \nDr. Trevor Hunter is a recognized non-profit governance expert\, having nearly 25 years of experience as a governance educator\, researcher\, consultant\, and practitioner. Trevor introduced the first ever course on governance under the UWO system at Ivey in 1999 and then the second one (which continues to this day) at King’s. He has taught the “Effective NFP Boards” course in the Not-For-Profit Management Certificate Program in Western’s department of Continuing Studies for over a decade. He has published and presented papers on governance in and at leading academic journals and conferences. Dr. Hunter has provided governance consulting to many regional non-profit organizations such as Western’s University Students’ Council\, the London Children’s Museum\, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre\, Anova\, Reforest London\, and Community Living London among others. Trevor has served on numerous Boards such as the King’s University College Foundation\, Youth Opportunities Unlimited\, the London Small Business Centre (former Board chair)\, the Middlesex London Board of Health (former chair of the governance committee) and the regional chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. In 2015\, Trevor was one of three co-founders\, and then vice-chair of the Board\, of Airshow London\, a non-profit organization designed to celebrate aviation excellence and raise money for local charities. Currently\, Dr. Hunter serves as vice-chair of the Board and chair of the governance committee for Museum London where he oversees by-law and policy compliance and development.
